“Prayer is like a telephone” as the old song goes, but there’s more truth in that than you realise. For some time now I have been using the PrayerMate app on my mobile phone to help me keep track of who and what I am praying for. And because I have my phone with me most of the time, I also have my prayer diary with me.
PrayerMate brings all your prayer points together. Whether its your personal prayer points for friends and family, regular updates from some fantastic mission organisations, or the latest PDF prayer letter that just arrived in your inbox, PrayerMate puts it all together in one place and helps you get on and pray.
For me the most important thing is that it keeps track of everything but presents only a selection each day, so I am not snowed under with an impossible weight of prayer requests that I can’t keep up with. Worthy as it might be to pray for everyone every day, I know I would sink very quickly and just give up. You can still prioritise individual items, and the most urgent ones I set to come up every day.
I can edit my prayer points on the fly when I remember a new need, or when something has been answered. And there are feeds from various organisations which helps me to focus on mission as well as what is happening locally – I’m currently using one from Tearfund.
The app is available as a free download (with no annoying advertisements) for Android, Apple and Amazon devices.
In addition, there are a number of resources available for Lent, including a daily link in with 40acts course.
