Rector’s Letter 2018

My dear brothers and sisters in Christ, Greetings in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ!

Those who were in the church this morning might have noticed some new faces, at least one or two are members.

Following the service at the Annual Vestry Meeting we gathered together to celebrate all that we have achieved as a church in 2017. There was a sense of gratitude to all those who work tirelessly for the Lord in this place. We are blessed with our wonderful teams of lay, ordained, and our licensed colleagues who serve in the parish and beyond.

I’d like to thank every volunteer. You have arranged flowers, poured coffee, played music, taught children, served at the altar, visited the sick, cared for the lonely, looked our technical equipment’s and so many, many other things. I thank you, deeply and sincerely for every minute you have given to the Lord and to St Edmund’s Church.

This was my first Annual Vestry Meeting at St Edmund’s Church, but I have been working here almost a year now. I have thoroughly enjoyed working at St Edmund’s where people are working together, sharing their talents and resources where they are best suited, and making opportunities for specialised ministry – children, youth, the elderly, families, worship, evangelism, pastoral care, administration etc.

I hope and pray that in the next few weeks when a team of people from Lee Abbey joins us for ten days between Ascension Day to Pentecost Sunday (10-20 May), we will be a source of encouragement for one another, our partners in mission, our town and our neighbours.

You brother in Christ
