Summer Barbecue

What better weather for a barbecue than this year’s long, hot summer, and what finer location than Llanfellte farm above the Usk valley to hold it. Great fun, great games that were, shall we say, a little competitive, and fine dining in a bun. Here is a selection of the pictures taken.

Crickhowell Open Studios 2018

Over the Whitsun bank holiday St Edmund’s once again hosted as part of the Crickhowell Open Studios weekend. There was a great variety of art and craft work on display, and of course tea and cake.

Breakfast on the Beach

Our Messy Church service this month was on the theme of Jesus encounter with his disciples on the beach after his resurrection. There was plenty of fishy fun as you can see in these photos.

Lent Lecture No 1

On Saturday 24th March we heard this year’s Lent Lecture, the first in a series of annual lectures towards the end of Lent. His Honour Anthony Seys Llewellyn QC presented a talk entitled ‘Jesus of Nazareth – guilty or not guilty?‘ It was good to see so many people from around the Ministry Area and from the town. You can listen to the entire talk, read the transcript and see a short video clip here.

Mothering Sunday 2018

Mothers posing with their posies after our Mothering Sunday service this year. May the Lord who brought us all to birth, strengthen us for daily life. May the Lord who provides for all our needs sustain us day by day. May the Lord whose steadfast love is for all, send us out to live and work for others. And the blessing of God Almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, be with you and remain with you always.

Prayer Chains

In prison in Philippi, Paul and Silas were in chains having been severely beaten for preaching the gospel, yet were singing hymns to God. You can read about what happened and their miraculous escape in Acts 16:16-40 We made paper ‘prayer’ chains in our family service today, which you can see in the alcove by the altar. There were several prayers for the leaky church roof which started draining melting snow down onto the AV equipment during the service!

TAB Christmas Marathon

Since Easter, our established members of TAB (TotesAmazeBells, St Ed’s youth club) have been welcoming several new young people to the group. They have settled in quickly and joined in all the activities enthusiastically, not least the bell-ringing in the tower and the hand-bells. Leading up to Christmas, varying combinations of young people rang bells in several venues, firstly taking to the streets of Crickhowell for the switching on of the Christmas lights and then in 3 venues during… [Continue Reading]

This is an exciting time as we look forward to working with the team between Ascension and Pentecost next year. Find out more on the Ministry Area website.

Seven Days – A Pyrenean Adventure

Author Nathan Munday discusses his new book ‘Seven Days’ with Eric Gower and talks about his experiences on the trek, how he came to write the book and how it links in with his own Christian faith. William Blake once said that great things are done when men and mountains meet. I say that greater things happen when somebody stays in the mountains for seven days or more. New worlds are formed, dreams merge with reality; those things which are impossible,… [Continue Reading]

Rana’s Induction Service

Thursday 11th May saw the licensing of the reverend Rana Khan as Rector of Crickhowell with Cwmdu and Tretower, and leader of the Catwg Ministry Area. Members of all 10 ministry area congregations, plus friends and members of Rana’s former congregation in London packed the church for this joyous occasion. We even had a visitor from Norway, Raymond Larsen, who had flown over specially to be here for the occasion. Bishop John Davies preached on Isaiah 6:1-8 ‘Here I am,… [Continue Reading]
