Revd Mairwen Large

Born in Cardiff and raised in a Welsh speaking family, Mairwen trained as a Primary school teacher. She worked in Bristol for her first teaching post and then followed God’s calling to join the Lee Abbey Community in North Devon. There she developed her love of worship music and worship leading, which she brought with her when she returned to Wales with her husband Simon. They have worshipped together at St Edmund’s for 25 years and have two grown up children who are both Christians.

In the intervening years she has been a worship leader, Fairtrade coordinator, Lay Reader, pastoral visitor and Children and Families worker – all areas of ministry which mean a great deal to her – but sensing God’s calling she applied to train for the ordained ministry and was ordained in June 2023, following a year of full-time training at St Padarn’s Institute, Cardiff, and the completion of her theology degree.

She had not expected to be called to full time ministry, nor to return to St. Catwg as a curate, but she is delighted to be back and to be meeting new faces and she is looking forward to seeing how God can use her in this new ministry.
